As the top bull riders in the world prepare for the 2022 summer run of events across the country, the infa- mous King of the North Showdown series is back and boasting 12 events spanning fan-favorite venues and cities in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Montana.
King of the North Showdown is now part of the soon-to-launch PBR Challenger Series, which consists of more than 60 events traveling to 27 states across the United States, in conjunction with the soon-to-launch PBR Team Series – an eight-team league competing in five-on-five bull riding games July to November 2022.
Bull riding fans will be on the edge of their seats as top competitors in the sport put it all on the line to gain crucial points available at the events toward the coveted “King of the North” title and $100,000 bonus paycheck which goes to the rider with the top aggregate …

The Pennington County Fair has been running for 100+ years and it keeps getting better. Parade, fireworks, huge midway, 4H exhibits, bingo, free bandshell entertainment, food stands and Grandstand entertainment. Hairball performs at the Grandstand on Thursday evening, the Thunder on Hooves Bullride celebrates its 25th year on Friday and Saturday, and the Sunday Grandstand entertainment is to be announced.
Come on out to the Thief River Falls Community Theatre's shortened version of the original musical designed especially for young actors. Great acting and songs! Perfect family fun.

Nordic Fest 2022 will span more than one week. This year, our main program will be on the 99th Infantry (Sep.) Battalion, a unit of Norwegian-Americans and Norwegians-in-exile during World War 2. We have people coming from all over the country, including Deputy Chief of Mission Torleiv Opland and Military and Assistant Defense Attache Col. Eric F. Kelley from the Norwegian Embassy in Washington, D.C.
Kyle Ward, director of social studies and history professor at MN State Univ. Mankato, will speak on the history of the 99th. He is on the board of directors for the 99th Battalion Educational Foundation and is collaborating with Odd Lovoll on a forthcoming book, “Viking Battalion: The Norwegian-American’s War Against Hitler,” which looks at 99th Infantry Battalion history. Erik Brun, president of the 99th Foundation, will show photos and have rosters and data for the 99th.

Betsy Saurdiff lives in Grygla and studied Art and German at Bemidji State University and the University of Minnesota. Highlights of her career include two McKnight Fellowship Awards, two Merit Awards at the NW MN Arts Council exhibit and Art Advocate of the Year. Northland Community & Technical College’s aerospace site in Thief River Falls will welcome the community for a public open house on Saturday, December 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. In conjunction with this event, a first-of-its-kind to northwest Minnesota REC Foundation Aerial Drone Competition (RADC), the 2021-22 Challenge: Downdraft 2, will be held featuring high school students from across the region.
Visitors to this event can test their metal riveting skills, fly small drones, explore the world of virtual reality, and compete in a paper airplane creation and flying contest to win some Northland gear. Take the opportunity to sit in the cockpit in one of many aircraft, explore Northland’s industry specific program offerings, and enjoy some refreshments.
