The list of events held in Thief River Falls each year is endless, and they usually attract both residents and visitors. Typically, residents have a good grasp on what our community offers, but visitors may not. A few examples of unique events that have brought visitors into Thief River Falls this year include the American Legion Convention, the Curling Club States Dominion Bonspiel, and the Girls 15U A State Hockey Tournament that will be held in Thief River Falls this weekend. These events each bring a diverse sector of visitors into our community and they may all be looking for different amenities.
Our community is home to a variety of restaurants, retail stores, attractions and recreational opportunities. But our visitors need to know about these great amenities in order to take advantage of them. That's where we come in. The objective of the Thief River Falls Convention & Visitors Bureau "shall be to promote the Thief River Falls area as a destination for conferences, conventions, events, group tours and leisure travelers; thereby enhancing the economic growth of the area." Our organization was established in 1984 to not only promote the Thief River Falls area through tourism advertising, but to also provide marketing services to our local businesses such as advertising opportunities in our annual Visitors Guide and help attracting event attendees into their stores. One way we fulfill this mission is to provide Welcome Bags to all event organizers free of charge. These bags are a partnership between the Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Chamber of Commerce and City of Thief River Falls. We provided bags to all three events mentioned above which educated those attendees on what our community has to offer. We make sure those bags are full of materials, such as our Visitor Guide, postcards, pens and any other items that the businesses and event organizers would like included.
Whether you're an event organizer who would like Welcome Bags for your attendees or a business owner who would like to provide a coupon or promotional item to go in the bags, we want to work together with you. Our goal is to attract visitors to Thief River Falls and to provide a top-notch experience for them while they're here, and we need help from our local event organizers and business owners to achieve the latter. If you're interested in partnering with us, please call us at 218-686-9785 or stop into our office at the Carnegie, located at 102 Main Ave. N and ask for Executive Director, Laura Stengrim.
