There are several outstanding community events in Thief River Falls and they are all unique in what they offer to our residents and visitors. However, the Pennington County Fair is the longest standing annual event at 117 years! This annual event brings in over 5,000 people per day for five days, making a remarkable economic impact on our community. The event consists of too many components to name, but the highlights are: A huge carnival, parade, exhibits, food stands, and grandstand events such as the Thunder on Hooves Professional Bull Ride and a demolition derby. This event is made possible through the volunteers on the Pennington County Fair Board. There are over 85 people on the board, and they joyfully come together every year to put on an amazing event! Mark your calendars for July 18-22, 2018 for this year's event.
The first week in August has also quickly grown to be one of Thief River Falls' most action-packed weeks. There are a dozen events packed into that one week, and largest events include: TRF Area Community Theater Productions, Movie in the Park, RiverFest, Street Wizards Car & Cycle Show, Crazy Days, Old Time Day, and the Pennington County Sportsmen's Club Fun Shoot.
What is noteworthy about this week of events is that twelve distinct organizations have come together to put on a string of unique events, all coordinated during different times of the same week. This is done so with the attendees' experience in mind. There is truly an event for every age and demographic during that week, and the joint planning and partnership that goes into this is remarkable. This year's dates are July 30-August 5, 2018.
