Tales of TRF – Bike TRF

Thief River Falls is a safe city to bike around and there are several fun places to ride. The 7-mile scenic River Walk is a wonderful place to bike with your family, or the 3+ miles of multi-use trails going out 3 different directions from the Greenwood St. roundabout are great options too. More experienced riders can share the road with motorists and ride in the same direction as traffic. Click here for more details on the “Rules of the Road” from BikeMN, the Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota.

The City of Thief River Falls is working hard to create more multi-use trails, with another 2 ¼ miles being added this summer, and another mile scheduled to be added in 2020. They have also been painting bike lanes on existing streets to make it safer for bicyclists and pedestrians to get around town. It’s great to have more places to ride, but there are other factors that come into play when calling a city “bike friendly.”

A group of volunteers have recently come together to create a group called “Bike TRF” that is dedicated to make Thief River Falls more bike friendly. They are holding a Bikeable Community Workshop on June 19, 2018 with the help of BikeMN, MN Department of Transportation and MN Department of Health. Participants will learn what makes a community more bikeable and steps we can take to achieve that goal here in Thief River Falls. We are honored to host this workshop because we are only one of six communities selected this year.
