Greenwood Trails Recreation Area is a 48 acre wooded trail system inside the city limits of Thief River Falls. This trail system once consisted of grassy trails winding along the Red Lake River, but the City of Thief River Falls recently added one mile of paved trails as well. This has quickly become a favorite walking, running and biking area for residents and visitors. In the snowy months, try snowshoeing on the wooden portion of trails and cross country skiing on the open portion.
The Thief River Falls parks system is a hidden gem that one can't fully appreciate until they have explored all 20 parks. The City of Thief River Falls staff works tirelessly to keep them in pristine condition, and what is unique about our parks is that they all offer something different. Not all of them have playground equipment; some are simply a sprawling green space along the river to quietly enjoy nature, and others are home to tennis, disc golf or basketball courts.
Two of our parks have outdoor ice rinks to work off that cabin fever that is common in Minnesota winters. There is truly a park to suit every age and interest in Thief River Falls; and in this fast-paced digital world, there is something very tranquil in just unplugging and spending the day at the park.
